THE CHALLENGE
The cooking exhaust was being expelled directly towards an adjacent building which is separated by a small alley, as depicted in the picture below. The cooking odor was being sucked into that building’s air make-up system. The building next door complained to the city, who sent a letter to the management of the Scotia Tower telling them to solve the problem or the City would close the exhaust which would result in the closure of the entire food court.

OUR APPROACH
A Ventmaster system with an HLS Ecolo spray nozzle was installed using 20 litres of Scentry every 60 days. This system reduced the odors, but did not eliminate them completely. The local distributor installed a second system (LCU- 1CR) with an extended nozzle spraying continuously during the heaviest cooking times; from 10am. to 2pm. using Scentry ready-to-use, diluted at 1:1 (50% Scentry RTU 50% additional water).

CONCLUSION
Since the additional system was installed 5 years ago, no complaints have been made.

Foundries

The Problem
At an aluminum foundry in Italy, slag (scum) from the production process is removed and placed in a storage building. Odors generated by slag (scum) during the storage are very
intense and resulted in many complaints from the nearby residents.

The Solution
Upon receiving the request to eliminate the odor problem, Ecolo Italy installed an Ecolo EP-60CF system, with an automatic water proportioner operating 30 spray nozzles in an area of 33.4m x 15.20m. Nozzles were fixed to the roof-supporting structure and configured in rows, approximately 6 meters apart.

Since ammonia and amines were the major contributors to the odorous emissions emanating from the slag, we advised the use of an Ecolo blend including an Ultimate A-320 formulation.

This Ecolo neutralizing blend is composed of 84.54% A-320, 9.66% #15, 3.86% #101, and 1.93% #9149. This blend diluted at 1:90 is sprayed for a duration of 15 - 20 seconds every minute, 12 hours a day (or 24 hours a day if odors are extreme).
